In a world of fast fashion and disposable goods, Ashley creates her fiber art out of upcycled and eco-friendly materials. The colorful, cork remnants come to her in a one-pound mystery bag from a fabric store in Texas. This cork fabric is harvested in Portugal from oak trees. Each tree remains untouched for nine years until it is harvested again as part of a process that is beneficial for the tree’s growth. The lining of each bag (canvas fabric) and the straps (vinyl fabric) are remnants sourced from the local awning company of the Carolinas. These materials are man-made and built to withstand the elements as well as the cork.

She likes to marry the synthetic and natural worlds by piecing and quilting. Taking this extra time to think about the colors, textures, stretch, and stiffness of the materials, she hopes to remind the holder to find unity and peace in a chaotic world.

All bags and accessories can be cleaned by rubbing with a clean cloth and a mild solution of dish soap and water.
