Copper (Metalsmithing and Fiber Arts) The Copper basket series is an exploration of Metalsmithing and Fiber techniques in response to the elegance found in the random convergence of lines. Currently, experimentation is a result of observances and inspirations when collecting material. The bins of Copper sheet and wire at the scrap yard are beautiful in their tangled mess. Coil after coil piled on top of sheets and other scrap, in an artistic sense, lines and planes are intersecting to create interesting forms. The recycled Copper baskets are then make from the collected materials to go into homes and be used and admired. Virginia Tocaben recently graduated with a BFA in studio art from Appalachian State University. Her home and studio are in Marchall, NC. |
