Photos are my personal journal, a chronicle of candid moments of beauty, humor, poignancy, strangeness, etc., in everyday life. I'm basically a people-and-animal person, have degrees in sociology and psychology, a certificate from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, and a smattering of classes in Buddhist Studies and photojournalism. Creating pictures seems to be a way to find out who I am in this moment-to-moment.
In the past few years I've been experimenting with high-contrast black and white prints, Polaroid transfers, and photo-haiga, an art form that combines original haiku-like poetry with photographic images. I love the wabi-sabi quality of transient beauty and situations which are earthy and simple, serene, irregular or imperfect, easily overlooked. Examples of the black-and-white work, Polaroid transfers, and photo-haiga are featured in my display downstairs at Woolworth Walk.
