About 3 years ago an out-of-the-box experience for me of performing in a theater for 3 nights stating the words “A lot more creativity is waiting to express itself” shifted something inside of me. A few months later, I signed up for a 30 drawings in 30 days class. There, I was given a brief introduction to this abstract art form where deliberate strokes became beautiful patterns and more importantly, there were no mistakes, only opportunities.
That experience released the artist in me after 60 years of believing I couldn’t make art. My inspirations often come from dreams, morning walks and nature.
My life at 70 started rocketing into a new dimension. Many wonderful events have happened as a result: Creating cards and prints for sale at a bazaar, a website, 8 months later becoming a Certified Zentangle Teacher, teaching at my studio in West Asheville, a successful art show, a juried art show, a studio in River Arts District. In Nov. 2016, my “Seasons of Life” appeared on the cover of WNC Woman along with a cover story. More out-of-the-box experiences have happened; I taught a 6-week Zentangle Class at OLLI College for Seniors UNCA and a 6-week class at McCall Continuing Education, Highland Farms, in Black Mountain.
