Darryl Maleike

Book Artist
Darryl received a Bachelor of Art degree in Photography from Southern Illinois University, after which he began graduate school, but dropped out when he realized it was not for him.
A decade and a half later he decided to continue pursuing his art, so he took three classes at the Penland School. It was there that he started to make books. He was accepted into Penland's Core Student Program and spent two years taking a variety of classes including wood, metal, photography and bookmaking.
Darryl received the Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival Emerging Artist Award in 2002. That same year he started a year Artist-in-Residence at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Now residing in Asheville NC where he has a studio at Woolworth Walk, he continues to make books, work on his photography, participate in craft shows and sell his books in a variety of galleries. |
